ComputerWorld: Police Raid DVD Piracy Ring in Sydney
The
NSW Police Force and the Australian Federation Against Copyright
Theft (AFACT) dealt a significant blow to the pirate film industry
with the seizure of thousands of allegedly illegal movies during
police raids in Sydney.
8000
allegedly pirated copies of DVDs were seized, including many recent
Australian cinema releases such as the Bourne Ultimatum, There Will
Be Blood, Disney's Enchanted, and the popular TV series Prison Break
and Underbelly.
Hollywood
blockbusters like Spiderman, classic films such as the Wizard of
Oz, and children's Disney cartoon movies were also seized.
Burning
equipment and numerous computers were also confiscated in the raids.
Hollywood Reporter: Madrid CD/DVD Pirate Ring Busted
Spanish
police broke up a prolific pirating ring of Chinese nationals in
Madrid, dismantling what they called the biggest pirating factory
in Spain, with the capability of producing some 80,000 illegal copies
per day.
In
the bust, police seized 20 recording towers and 155,000 virgin and
already recorded CDs and DVDs. Police also found so-called master
copies achieved through illegal recordings in theaters, including
some from titles not yet released in Spain.
Police
estimate that the gang's production had been capable of earning
?240,000 ($371,000) in daily sales on the street.
Keloland: DVD Sends Powerful Message
Parents
in 121 school districts across South Dakota will soon get the chance
to see video that will help them talk to their children about underage

It's
part of the Parents Matter campaign, Prairie View Prevention Services,
that is sending the DVD, a brochure, and a letter to parents.
Alabama Times: New Parents Take Home DVD, Too
The
Women's Pavilion at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence is
giving parents a DVD that could help alleviate some of the stress
of being a parent to a newborn as well as to answer some of the
simpler questions.
"During
a mother's hospital stay, it's difficult for the family to remember
the vast amount of information we provide, especially with the excitement
of becoming a new parent," said Beth Bevis, nurse manager of
the Women's Pavilion.
While
in the hospital, new parents can preview "Baby's First Month
... What Do We do Now," and the DVD can be used for quick reference
on topics from why babies cry to how to change a messy diaper. In
total, 30 topics are covered.
